Sweet Recreation – Glasgow's Own Shake Shack

Hi and welcome back! This next review takes place in the south side of Glasgow at Sweet Recreation on Kilmarnock Road.

About the Place

Sweet Recreation is the newest bar & grill to open in Shawlands, Glasgow. The place offers a range of beers, cocktails, wine etc., and unknown soft drink brands that the waitress herself described as "boujee". As well as a good drinks selection, Sweet Recreation also offers a burger menu brought to you by Meat Stack, a burger company that provides their own goods and menus to different restaurants across the UK. Meat Stack's menu includes beef, chicken, and veggie burgers, and a range of sides.

Inside Sweet Recreation, the decor is modern and rustic, with old-fashioned brick walls and classic dangling lights. The vibes inside are quite chill (even though it was absolutely dead when I went), and the staff are very friendly.

The Food

From the Meat Stack menu, my friends and 1 all ordered the tray deal - a double of whichever burger you want, fries and 3 wings for £12. We each ordered a different burger from the menu and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was tasty but not too heavy, the chips were great and actually had flavour, and the wings were a nice wee treat. If you like a good burger, and if you especially like Shake Shack burgers that we sadly can't get in Glasgow, you'd definitely enjoy a Meat Stack burger.

The Cost

The cost is where Sweet Recreation is failing a little. Although not overly expensive, it's not exactly what I would call cheap or affordable. Most pints are a fiver or more, the cheapest cocktail is £8, and without the tray deal, the Meat Stack menu is kind of overpriced for what you get. If you have money to spare then its not an issue, but if you're really watching your money it might not be worth it.

My official rating of Sweet Recreation...

★★★☆☆

If you're a burger lover I'd definitely give Sweet Recreation a try. Same goes for anyone living in the Shawlands area - try somewhere new, you'll at least get a half decent burger out of it. But if you are neither of these things, I wouldn't go out your way. You can probably find the same quality for less in your own area.

Top tip when visiting: get there before 9pm if you're after a burger. The place itself shuts at 11, but the kitchen closes at half 9. Not ideal.

Until next time,
Beth x
